2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee review: Our expert's take
What Is the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
The Jeep Grand Cherokee has a reputation for combining comfort with true all-terrain prowess. The Jeep image alone is a draw, but the Grand Cherokee manages to back up the off-road bravado — especially in Trailhawk form.
If you want something for everyday commuting, the standard 293-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine is perfectly up to the task. If you want more power, the Grand Cherokee offers an optional 360-hp, 5.7-liter V-8.
For anyone who wants muscle-car performance in an SUV, there are 475-hp SRT and 707-hp Trackhawk models available. They deliver not just loads of driving thrills, but also a hefty price premium over the rest of the lineup. Grand Cherokee competitors include the Toyota 4Runner, Ford Edge and Hyundai Santa Fe.
What's New on the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
Jeep's Active Safety Group package is now available on the Laredo trim. It includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
What Features in the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Are Most Important?
Jeep has wisely expanded the availability of advanced safety features, some of which had only been available on higher trim levels. The optional Trailer Tow Group IV package elevates the Grand Cherokee's trailering capabilities, while the available Selec-Terrain traction-management system gives an extra degree of control when traveling in messy conditions. Standard tech features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.
2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. 2020 Ford Edge: How Do They Compare?
The 2020 Ford Edge doesn't have the performance and off-road credentials of the Grand Cherokee. The new Edge is, however, a comfortable and capable two-row SUV, and it comes with an available multimedia system that's vastly better than some of Ford's previous efforts. Jeep's Uconnect multimedia system, however, remains the usability benchmark. The Grand Cherokee has a wider range of trims than the Edge and can be configured for specific needs, whether you're heading off-road or to the track.
Should I Buy the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
Jeep's rugged Grand Cherokee has been a favorite for years, appreciated for its off- and on-road capability, attractive styling and practicality. All in all, the Grand Cherokee can be different things to different shoppers thanks to a breadth of powertrains and trims.

Owns this car
It has all the features one needs to keep others at bay. It looks great and drives wonderful. Jeep could improve on its painting skills as it has factory flaws.
